I am a Tucson-based visual artist working with encaustic wax, oils and historical images.
My work explores women warriors in revolutions and wars, the Tucson desert and the rich history of Lopez Island. My creative explores the strength and footprints of our ancestors and their commitment to love of others, to the complexity of community and to our own historical legacy of taking, giving and protecting the beauty and bounty of our natural world.
Through wax, oil, and texture I build upon a real, historical image, using my imagination to add color, tone, brightness and sometimes whimsy. I strive to be respectful of the unknowing subjects in my pieces, folks I will never know, hoping only to add to their vibrancy.
Recent work focuses on the intersection of space and community on a small island, historically vital warrior women who were otherwise little seen, and the mysterious RoadRunner.
I am available for modest showings.
